Why
is enrollment best at five days per week?
Children thrive on routine, predictability
and continuity. They need to identify with caregivers and teachers so, continuity and positive relationships can
flourish. Following a specific ratio being students to teacher, benefits the individualistic needs of your child, with the
Montessori philosophy. Although not all of our students are five days a week, the school does adhere to a minimum
number of days, that students must attend to benefit from the whole experience. Half days or full days are
available. Please contact the school for availability. The school does accept enrollment on a rolling bases,
provided there is space on the specific days you may require.
Consistency
assists children to aquire a sense of comfort and the feeling of security and belonging is necessary, before a higher level of learning can
occur. Classmates do bond and become friends and positive relationships develop through attending everyday.
Learning is based on cumulative opportunities and for young children, repeating activities the next
day is an important element, providing continuity to the process.
Why
is the school called Montessori?
The Montessori education,
is based on the work of an Italian physician, Dr. Maria Montessori, whose research enabled her to broaden a rewarding educational philosophy
for babies, toddlers, preschoolers and even elementary students.
What
is the Montessori approach?
Children's innate love of learning
and a desire to develop concentration and experience the ability of self-discipline, is availabe through
the consistency of the Montessori approach. The Montessori hands-on curriculum, enables the students to progress
at their own pace. The teacher is a role model and facilitator who observes and coaches a child with carefully
designed learning materials and activities. The teacher typically guides students during a three-year cycle of learning;
in a class environment that cultivates independence and self-motivation.
What
training do the teachers have?
Teachers have specialized Montessori
training or hold traditional E.C.E. diplomas. They have specific training for the toddler or Casa Montessori
classrooms. All staff have training with first aid.
How can parents be involved?
Collaboration with parents is
encouraged through class observations, open communication and frequent dialogue with teachers. Parents are involved with
fundraising activities that provide resources to develop children’s programs. We take pride in our gatherings
that bring the whole school community together.
